Mr. Kaufman is a Co-founder and a Managing Partner of Bacchus Capital Management. At Bacchus, Mr. Kaufman has played a key role in all of the firm's transactions and investments:
- a financing of Cameron Hughes Wine, one of America's fastest growing wine businesses;
- a financing of Qupé, a leading Central Coast winery;
- a financing of Andretti Winery, a well-known Napa winery founded by Mario Andretti;
- a financing of Wine by Joe, the 2nd largest wine producer in Oregon;
- most recently, a significant equity investment in Sbragia Family Vineyards.
Mr. Kaufman is also the President of Gordian Group, LLC, a leading independent investment bank specializing in complex and distressed financial advisory work. At Gordian, he heads the firm's Restructuring and Distressed M&A practice.
Mr. Kaufman has been ranked the #1 number national investment banker in financial restructuring by The Deal. He has over 25 years of experience in the business of solving complex financial challenges as an investment banker and attorney. He is the co-author of the definitive work in the field, Distressed Investment Banking: To the Abyss and Back, Beard Books LLC, 2005, and is national TV's go-to pundit for restructuring and bankruptcy views.
Prior to joining Gordian, Mr. Kaufman was at First Boston Corp, where he was a founding member of its Distressed Securities Group. He is the founding Co-Chairman of the Committee on Distressed Investment Banking of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI).
Mr. Kaufman received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in history and art history from Yale College, where he earned three letters in lacrosse. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was in the top 25% of his class.
