Bay Area natives and husband and wife team, Elijah & Leslie Pfister started a little wine import company back in 2008. Given their proximity to Napa and Sonoma and burgeoning reputation in fine wine, the two were urged by friends to start making wines of their own from grapes farmed in California. Due to their proximity to great sources throughout the state, it was simple enough to go into their “backyard” so to speak, and work with some of the best farmers and vineyard sources in the world. They got so good at sourcing and blending, they decided to make it their full time focus and went ahead and purchased, Nine North Wine Company based in Napa, CA. Nine North Wine Company represents a varied portfolio of limited production, handcrafted wines from California, Oregon, Washington and New Zealand. In December 2012, Bacchus Capital Management provided a significant infusion of growth capital to Maritime Wine Trading Collective (the import company founded by Leslie & Elijah Pfister). This partnership with Bacchus provided resources and operational expertise needed to grow Maritime’s business through the addition of brands, people and markets.
Concurrent with the Bacchus investment, Maritime added Nine North Brands to its portfolio. Nine North Wine company was founded in Napa Valley’s prestigious Stag’s Leap District and produces handcrafted bottlings of Cabernet and Cabernet-based blends exclusively from California’s Napa Valley and North Coast appellations. The company was founded by James Harder and renowned vintner Jim Regusci.
In 2024, Wine Enthusiast gave 90 point score and “Best Buy” on the ’22 Chasing Lions Cabernet and 90 points and “Best Buy” on the ’21 Chasing Lions Pinot Noir.
