Peter Kaufman is a Co-founder and a Managing Partner of Bacchus Capital Management. He has 35 years of experience in the business of solving complex financial challenges as both an investment banker and attorney. At Bacchus, he has played a key role in structuring all of the Fund’s investments and works closely with the management teams of the portfolio companies.

In addition to his role at Bacchus Capital, Peter is the President of Gordian Group, a leading independent investment bank specializing in complex and distressed financial advisory work. He heads the firm’s Restructuring and Distressed M&A practice.

Peter has been ranked the #1 national investment banker in financial restructuring by The Deal, and is the co-author of the definitive works in the field, the recently published Distressed Investment Banking: To the Abyss and Back – 2nd Edition (Beard Books, 2015)Equity Holders Under Siege: Strategies and Tactics for Distressed Businesses (Beard Books, 2014) and Distressed Investment Banking: To the Abyss and Back (Beard Books, 2005).  Peter is also national TV’s go-to pundit for restructuring and bankruptcy views.

Prior to joining Gordian, Peter was at First Boston, where he was a founding member of its Distressed Securities Group. He is the founding Co-Chairman of the Committee on Distressed Investment Banking of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI).

Peter maintains board advisory roles with not-for-profit as well as industry organizations. He currently serves on the board of EcoHealth Alliance and Harlem Lacrosse & Leadership. He has been a board member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Yale Sports Federation. Peter received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in history and art history from Yale College, where he earned three letters in lacrosse. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was in the top 25% of his class.
